WE WANT MORE VOLUNTEERS and YOUNG LEADERS….

We are looking for young, bright awesome and talented leaders to help run and organise the session but with-out having the responsibilities of a Leader or Section Assistant. The young leader needs to be 14 to 16 years of age, with the passion of helping and drive the sessions and promote the scout association and also to help teach the beavers, cubs and scouts. They will help the growth of the sections and teach them what it is to be an awesome beaver, cub and scout and to learn themselves as this is a great reward in them learning to become a Leader themselves for a new group. The young leader will come to the planning session to help plan what the sessions will be, also to help run the sessions and make up awesome new games for the younger society to play. If this sound like you then please go to the contact us and click on volunteer help and follow the link.

Beavers are between 6-8 years of age, Cubs are between 8-10 years of age, scouts are between 10-14 years of age, explorers are the age of 14-16 years of age. We are also looking for adult volunteers who are inspiring and fun and willing to commit a couple of hours of their own time to help run a successful group,  this will help with the smooth running of the session, you will get to have great knowledge of what it is to become a section assistant or leader if you want it, and also learn things that you may of never learnt before, trust me I know, I am always learning things all the time from leaders and young children. With out your help this group would not be able to run and also grow to what we are now but we can grow so much more with your help.

Thank you.

Our Group Scout Leader (GSL)…

The overall purpose of the GSL role is to manage and support the Scout Group and its Leaders to ensure it runs effectively and that Scouting within the Group develops.

The main tasks that a Group Scout Leader would be asked to do are to:

  • Ensure that the Scout Group thrives and has the best systems in place to support adult volunteers and develop the Group including a Group Executive Committee and Section leadership teams.
  • Provide line management and support to the Leaders in the Scout Group, including setting objectives for their work and holding regular reviews and one-to-one meetings.
  • Ensure that the Scout Group has an adequate team of supported and appropriate adults working effectively together and with others to meet the Scouting needs of the sections and Group.
  • Ensure that a challenging, exciting and balanced programme is offered by the Leaders to the young people in the Scout Group.
  • Work with the District Commissioner and other Group Scout Leaders in the District to ensure that the District thrives and mutual support exists.

Some of the tasks for which the Group Scout Leader is responsible may be delegated to others in the Group.

Our current GSL (Group Scout Leader) is Daniel Anstee. He is also known as Skip to the majority of the group as he was previously the Scout Section Leader. Dan was instrumental is setting up the 2nd St. Neots Scout Group and in getting us our very own building in the grounds of St. Neots Town Football Club. Dan is very keen to expand the range of activities the Scout Group can deliver and is a regular contributor to the meetings of each Section.

St Neots Remembers….

This year marked the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One and 2nd St Neots Scouts, Cubs and Beavers were very proud to once again be a part of the town’s Remembrance Parade on Sunday November 9th 2014. A two-minute silence was observed and wreaths were laid at the War Memorial in the grounds of The Chapel of St Mary the Virgin, followed by a service in the chapel.

More pictures of the day can be seen in our gallery.

Mayor’s Charities…

We are very happy to announce that we were asked to attend the St Neots Annual Town Council meeting last week at the Priory Centre. As part of a presentation to his chosen charities we received a very generous donation from the Mayor himself.

A huge thank you to Councillor Andrew Hansard from all of us!!!!
